Sugar for Less
Aromaleigh and A Zaftig Woman
By Debbie Steele
Here's one worthy competitor: Aromaleigh's Sweet Brown
Sugar Body Glow is a combination of raw turbinado brown
sugar with sweet almond oil and a blend of essential oils:
bergamot, vanilla, lemon, lavender, geranium and grapefruit.
This blend of oils gives the Aromaleigh scrub a more complex
smell than fresh's brown sugar polish. Both products provide
great exfoliation and leave skin soft but not greasy. At
$17.00 for 16 ounces, the Aromaleigh scrub is only a fraction
of the cost of fresh's product.
Aromaleigh is a small
aromatherapy-oriented company in Rochester, New York that
"believes in using pure, therapeutic essential oils and
natural ingredients you can actually pronounce." My only
complaint about their sugar scrub: It comes in a (sturdy)
glass container. Aromaleigh products are sold only at
Aromaleigh.com.
I got similar results from the Salon Secret Sugar Scrub created by
A Zaftig
Woman, an online merchant with a rather zealous following.
Zaftig means "full-figured"; this Ohio company was founded by
a plus-size model who opened a boutique and salon and created
a line of bath and body products.
I've tried a few of their
products, and have noticed some common characteristics: simple
packaging, reasonable prices and heavy fragrance. The sugar
scrub is no exception.
Its strong fragrance really lingers; be
sure to select a scent you like. One minor complaint: the
plastic container in which the scrub arrived was labeled as "salt scrub," although the ingredient list said brown sugar
rather than salt.
The consistency and effects of this scrub
are very similar to the pricier brands; at $16 for 16oz,
this one is worth a look. It is available in Citrus Essence,
Pineapple Grapefruit and Milk Chocolate Mousse.
