Take the Cake
Cake Beauty
By Lisa Link Phillips
Next on the dessert tray was a collection of goodies from
Cake
Beauty, a newish company based in Canada. Cake Beauty is
impressive in that the proprietresses themselves were a
key force in putting together the unique formulas, which are
rich with natural oils and don't contain harsh chemicals.
Admitted dessert-o-philes will relish this line's ambrosia-like
scents!
I tried a few selections from Cake, including the Supreme
Body Mousse, Milk Made Velveteen Hand Cream, Dolce Super-Lux
Body Cream, and Sweet Cheeks Sugar Scrub.
Supreme Body Mousse ($18 for 9 oz.) is a satiny lotion with a
whipped texture, infused with a combination of macadamia
nut oil, coconut oil, mango butter and aloe vera to pamper dry
skin. This is a medium weight formula that isn't too oily and
is a nice choice for warmer weather.
I tried this moisturizing
mousse in "It's A Slice" an orange and vanilla creamsicle
fragrance- and "Creme De La Creme", a tempting maple and vanilla
combo. Both smell delectable yet subtle, and aren't the least
bit sweet or cloying.
If your skin is positively Sahara-like and needs a cream with
more oomph, look no further than Dolce Super-Lux Body Crème
(also $18 for 9oz). Super-Lux's rich formula is a weighty blend
of shea butter, mango butter, vanilla, milk, rosehip seed oil
and marshmallow infusion.
It's perfect for the thirstiest of
skins, or for use during the winter months. Alas, it isn't
really suitable for the steam room that is summer in the
Midwest. But, come October, I'll happily slather it from stem to
stern.
Milk Made Velveteen Hand Crème (4.5oz for $12) was, in my
opinion, the real standout of this line. I loved how well this
lightly-scented formula (it smells a bit like vanilla)
moisturized my dry, cracked hands without feeling the least bit
oily or slick (I can't stand to wear
gardening gloves, because the soil in my hands feels so good,
but they do pay the price!).
This hand cream has vitamins, mango and shea butters,
and rosehip seed oil to moisturize. Whole milk acids
exfoliate and marshmallow, calendula and aloe vera heal and
soothe. I used this lotion every night and the condition of my
hands really improved.
Sweet Cheeks Sinfully Smooth Brown Sugar Scrub (16 oz. for $24)
rounded out the Cake Beauty bunch. This Turbinado sugar scrub is
chock-full of the required oils, with essences of pure vanilla
and cinnamon. Another great formula with just the right ratio of
oil to sugar, and a very reasonable price tag.
Cake Beauty will delight your skin and your senses. You can find
their products at

Sasabee.com (a few items) and
