Mary Proud and her daughter Maria Crussard began
Simply Scents five months
ago. They had grown tired of being constantly disappointed
with body lotions and soaps so they created their own.
Proud and Crussard began to send them as extras with cosmetics they
swapped on the beauty website Makeup Alley. Makeup Alley
member Dinah Adler received one of their soaps as part of a
swap and loved it so much that she contacted Proud and
Crussard about making her an additional 10. Word got around
about their fabulous products; they were soon swamped with
orders and a business was born.
Simply Scents makes Body Lotion, Body Balms and Soaps in over
30 scents. The Body Lotions ($3.50 for 4oz, $5.25 for 8oz)
have a silky smooth consistency and absorb instantly. They
contain aloe vera, jojoba oil and shea and cocoa butters. I
tried body lotions in Perfect Love, a sexy, not foody,
vanilla, Lemon Poundcake, a sumptuous blend of lemon, vanilla
and coconut, Dreamsicle, which smells just like the tasty
orange vanilla ice cream treat, and Angel Food, a heavenly
blend of sugary vanilla and coconut.
My favorite product is
the new rich and creamy Body Balm that contains shea butter,
aloe vera, rose hip, sunflower and jojoba oils. A little goes
a long way and the balm leaves your skin feeling like silk. I
sampled this in Coconut and it left a delicious hint of the
scent on my skin all morning.
The fragrant Soaps ($3 for 3oz
bar, 2 bars for $5) lather wonderfully and contain
moisturizing vitamin E. My favorite soap is Pink Grapefruit,
which made my morning shower an absolute pleasure. Top selling
scents are Vanilla Caramel, Crème Brulée, Angel Food and
Simply Scents is currently developing shower gels and body
sprays that I cannot wait to try.
