Prairieland Herbs
By Melissa Miller
The mother and daughter team of Donna Julseth and Maggie Howe
turned their passion for gardening into
Prairieland Herbs. They hand make all-natural
bath, body, tea and food products using ingredients grown on
their farm in mid-west Iowa.
I am smitten with the Lemon Poppyseed Sugar Body Scrub ($7.25 for 8oz, $12.50 for 16oz), a wildly refreshing blend of lemon, jojoba oils and
sugar. I adore this bath treatment; it’s become my morning
pick-me-up staple. Both salt and sugar scrubs are offered in
Oatmeal and Honey, Patchouli, Sweet Lavender and Red
Raspberry.
Bubble Bath in Pink Grapefruit ($8 for 6oz) is
all natural with gentle, natural soap, glycerin, aloe and
fresh comfrey that leave the skin soft. I’ve never been a body
oil lover until I
tried Lilac Bath and Body Oil ($10 for 6oz). A hydrating blend of sunflower, olive, jojoba and
vitamin E oils leaves the skin velvety smooth without an oily
feel. It’s available in a variety of scents including Sweetgrass and Cedar, Sandalwood Vanilla, Rosemary Mint, and
Sage and Plumeria.
Another winner is the Hair, Body and Linen
Mist ($8 for 6oz) in Ocean Rain. When you spray this on your
sheets, you and anyone nearby will be jumping into bed.
The
delightfully sweet Cocoa Butter Botanical Bath Salts ($5 for 8oz) make a luxurious and moisturizing soak. I discovered a
new, lovely fragrance favorite, Apricot Freesia, a clean,
delicate scent with a juicy apricot note, which I sampled in
the talc-free Body Powder ($7.50 for 6oz). Packaged in
elegant silver tins with powder puffs, I’m planning on giving
several as gifts. Vintage Skin Lip Balm ($2.25 per tube) is a
soothing lip treat available in Vanilla.
Other popular items that are offered in a variety of scents
include Goat Milk Soap ($2 for 2oz bar, $4 for 4oz bar),
Solid Perfume ($2.50 for ¼oz tin) and Lotion Bars
($7.50).
Also available from PrairielandHerbs.com are baby care products, hair rinses, essential
oils, herbal salves and balms.
